We’ve just started our hols in Wales, couple of days in Plassey, then over to Rhosneigr and then to Bala for 4 nights. Weather looks great.

A question for the well travelled, Anglo-knowledgeable gentlemen of the parish: I have two days next week to occupy my sprogs on their summer hols. In a desperate bid to extract their faces from electronic devices, was wondering where might be good to take them for two days of interesting/adventurous excursions.

Of relevance:

  • We’re based in London - due to only having 2 days, don’t really want to travel more than 3-4hrs each way (so a flight to somewhere in Scotland is fine - a drive to Snowdonia is max).
  • As youngest is 6, will need a mix of casual ambling around somewhere interesting and some hiking - 2 days of solid hiking/strenuous walking won’t go down well.

Am thinking maybe 7 Sisters coastal path maybe - or a flight to Aberdeen/Inverness and something around there?

Would love to go to Snowdonia or Lake District but I don’t think we have long enough to really do either well.

Stay local and do a Go Ape day and an indoor escape game day?

Train to Margate.

This is what I was going to suggest. Two votes = mandate.

Good call, thanks. I’ve been meaning to go for a while. There’s also the Spitfire/Hurricane museum and Hornby model museum, which should be good for a boys outing.

Left Hartlepool for Aberdeen at 09:30 and now on the ferry, experiencing my first rain for over a fortnight, good practice for when I get home

Looking forward to getting mobbed by the girls tomorrow

A 3-lake hike in Ticino (Tom/Ritom/Cadagno)

The funicular railway to get up to the starting point is truly terrifying :grimacing: but the swim was wonderful.
