A second class return from Glasgow to Euston was stupid money if it got you into London during peak hours. I used to book first class open return as it was £60 cheaper at that time of day, firms system wouldn’t flag it as it was cheapest ticket, then get a later train due to fck getting up at two in the morning to catch a train reasons. Virgin West Coast did a great wee fry up.
This, and it being a major infrastructure project so that there is always one on the go at any one time to supposedly keep the skills there. And yes, it is possible to express some sarcasm at that concept.
I hadn’t long moved to Newport and just started to know my way about when half the roads had to closed so they could build higher railway bridges for the electrical lines to go under. Couple of years of pain and then they ditch it all at Cardiff.
