Some years ago I worked at a hospice and a very boring part of my job was policy review.
A policy came up for renewal titled ‘Hospice Cat’
Apparantly some years before a stray had made the hospice his home.
Some patients loved being visited by a cat, others didn’t like cats at all.
The policy covered deciding how cat access permissions were worked out.
Who was responsible for feeding the cat and its well being.
Holiday cover for the cat team.
Ensuring the cat was up to date with the necessary jabs and vet inspections and a full medical record was kept.
What to do if another cat arrived.
Which department’s budget the cat came under and whether a unique cost code was required.
It was by far the best policy meeting I ever attended.
Local cat started saying hello when I walk passed on Friday… a day after a caught a lost dog and reunited it with its owner which happened the day after I rescued a cat that had its legs stuck in a drain and took it to the vet for treatment.
