Live music funding

‘Slap in the face’: grassroots music venues face closure as funding bid fails

We have a lot of live music in St Albans, in pubs and a couple of venues. I even go sometimes. Conversely I hardly ever make it to classical music nowadays, as there is less locally.

I think that there is a case for quite a big subsidy for live music, because of the social benefits, but it does seem an unfair apportionment.

the arts council are just a bunch of stuck up twats, 85% of music funding went opera and classical and 73% of total funding went to London.

A friend is now a very successful opera singer and regularly has leads at the ROH, she said when she was learning the trade she was given money by the ACE which amounted to around £30k per year “to help her out”
