Well worth a read
50 years since Horses was released! Makes me feel old*
*I am, of course.
You should have seen the crowd at the Palladium, I felt quite young ![]()
Also an interview on iPlayer this weekend (probably the same source material as the article)
Cheers, added to my Watch List
In a similar vein, I find it really weird that you feel quite young / fit right in when you turn up at an Orbital gig. I mean, they were once seen as underground.
My reply was slightly tongue in cheek to Paul’s comment about being old.
Amongst all the oldies there were a large number of vocal women in the audience who obviously idolised Patti Smith.
Before writing this reply I googled and was informed that
“Patti Smith has a significant and dedicated female fan base that includes a multigenerational following . While specific demographic data on the exact male-to-female ratio is not publicly available, numerous sources highlight her profound influence on women and girls, establishing her as an icon and a major role model for female artists and fans alike.”
This is worth a watch. From his early years recording at Decca, going to the US & getting his own show with amazing clips featuring Little Richard & Janis Joplin, the knicker throwing years & then a renaissance with a Glastonbury appearance & collaborations with younger bands.
Still think Bristol is one of the coolest cities in the south.
Reminds me of what London was like 30 or 40 years ago.
Nice to see Ryan (Roni Size) chipping in there. We lived on the same street and went to the same school. A massive thing for me as a young teenager was Sefton Park Youth Club. A place to hang out in the evenings and relax. They had a music studio in the basement which Ryan took advantage of to help build his skills. Upon winning the Mercury Music Prize with Reprazent, Ryan donated all the prize money to the Basement Music Project.
Alas, Bristol City.Council closed the youth club some years later. We were so lucky to have that place.
