It’s not the destination. It’s the journey
Someone dying: predictable.
Method of death: innovative.
For example, at the end of Le Roi d’Ys someone opens some sluice gates and entirely floods a now mythical French city to try and stop a wedding.
Not The Marriage of Figaro. Or Fidelio. Or Die Meistersinger. Or Nixon in China .
Or, to name a few more out there examples, Der Junge Lord by Henze. Or Palestrina by Pfitzner (because you always wanted a musical dramatisation of the Council of Trent). Or Le Grand Macabre by Ligeti, despite the title.
Or you could have Einstein on the Beach and basically not have a plot.
I don’t know the Handel operas but there are dozens of them, no ? At least one must end with the heroine still breathing.
Bess is still alive at the end of Porgy and Bess (but is she ‘the heroine’ ?).
Billy Budd doesn’t have one in the first place so avoids that question.
Licht by Stockhausen (which sort-of never ends).
Ellen is still with us at the end of Peter Grimes too.
33 shades of green.
All dishes featuring kale seem to look exactly to bloody same.
Several more blood tests later, I’ve just had a text from my GP. He’s checked my cholesterol and would like me to make a routine telephone appointment to discuss the results.
Let me guess - My cholesterol is absolutely fine, and he just wants to congratulate me for keeping it under such wonderful control.
Feeling proper old right now. Maybe it’s time to get one of those daily pill organiser things, like my granny used to have.
Anyway, weight loss now close to 9lbs. Still waiting for the results of kidney function and peripheral vision tests. Most important of all will be the recent photos of my optic nerves. I’m keeping my fingers firmly crossed for those.
In the meantime, still feeling great, and reasonably optimistic all things considered.
Hey, you got a warning, acted on it and are making changes.
Along with with whatever medication the doc says you need you are on the right path.
Losing 9lbs is not insignificant. I found that if you are doing your bit the medical team will pull out all the stops for you, keep at it!
Yes, spot on.
Whatever happens from here, I am in far better shape to adjust to it than I was a month ago.
On to more pressing matters:
I have bought some sweet potatoes.
I have no idea what to do with them.
I’m sure much deliciousness is possible, but am in need of inspiration.
As a side accompaniment, peel and cut into cubes, spray with oil, season and lightly toss in a spice mix (eg cajun, italian style garlic and herbs etc), and roast in the oven at c 190 deg C.
As an ingredient, how about sauteed with diced peppers, mushrooms, black beans etc and used as a filling to quesadilla with cheese and coriander leaves.
Bin them, they are shite
Roast and add into chana masala.
Boil and mash
I’ll give them a go.
Quite a number of the healthiest foods are shite though. I thought nature was all about making things smell and taste nice in order to ensure the right creatures are attracted to them.
We humans were never meant to eat kale, for example. It looks and tastes quite nasty (unless you do something fairly drastic with it). Makes no sense at all.
