In some respects, heās right. They are far too imbalanced and stretched. Trouble is, theyāre unlikely to break in a way that doesnāt (as always) hurt the poorest (price hikes) or be rebuilt in a more sustainable, fairer way. Far more likely theyāll be even more concentrated in a few, massive, overly powerful, players.

Just announced on the radio itās up to 127. Bofuck says the low number is due to the world shortage of HGV drivers.

I came away thinking it was 127 HGV drivers of all types (we need maybe tens of thousands) and 27 of those were fuel drivers (350 needed urgently).

The issue as I understand it is that the pandemic and bizarre WFH conditions that the DVLA decided for themselves decimated their capacity and rate of application approvals and led to an enormous backlog which they are still not in any position to make inroads into. Fuel carrying licenses also are more onerous (and expensive if youāre the applicant).
All very predictable and Iāll bet somewhere thereās a briefing inside the Transport department spelling out the warning well in advanceā¦

One of the issues is that this is for individual drivers. What this doesnāt cover is EU companies who delivered here and then went on to ship goods round the UK before they delayed back to the mainland with a full load as well. Those company level contracts requested to millions of loads shifted.
Itās the right wing wet dream, the market will provide it just needs time to adjustā¦ Fucking priceless.
