But then, I’m a remoaner metropolitan elite.
This must be one of Marina’s best quotes:
Come to that, whatever happened to Michael Gove? The secretary of state for levelling up would have more visibility in a witness protection programme.
Tories lost Worcester.
It looks like there wasn’t an election in the Malvern Hills area. That would have been interesting.
As a result of my mother’s politics* I know quite a few of the tory councillors quite well.
* despite the fact that it was local labour who got my grandmother a council house when she was a single mother of three, both my mother and grandmother were always true blue tory
Thornbury had just ruled out any pre or post election deals with Nats or LDs. Labor want power and even if a minority government, will not enter into a coalition not an understanding.
They see themselves as the only left wing party and certainly don’t want to share power, even if it keeps the Tories out.
They really don’t get it.
Ps, will be interesting to see if Starmer comments on this. I suspect he will prefer not to so he has room to manoeuvre.
Lib Dems have absolutely swept the board in St Albans so far. Of the 29 seats currently declared for St Albans, 27 taken by lib dems, 1 Green, 1 independent. While the remaining districts are Harpenden, and hence might return a few Tories, the LDs have clear overall control already.
It used to be Tory controlled with a Tory MP. Now it has a very popular LD MP, and that’s reflected in these results.
At the moment no one gets them either. They don’t know what they are as a party. Pretty hard to message effectively from this place.
By the looks of these results Labour are nowhere near the numbers needed to form majority Government. They’ll need SNP and LD support to hold minority Government which hopefully they can agree upon. At the very least everyone should agree not to form Govt with the Tories…
Going to get tricky for Starmer. The additional information regarding beergate is about Angela, if she gets fined she could be off the shadow front bench.
Surely instant karma for Johnson and sunak refusing to resign.
Though I do think starmer would walk if fined
I agree, thornbury doesn’t though. She actually said they would present Bills as a minority government and if the Nats or LDs voted against them then they would have to answer to their electorate for letting the Tories back in.
She isn’t the brightest.
They would see it as taking the scalp of the Labour Deputy, and that’s exactly what their supporters would see it as. They themselves would continue in post and estimate that Angela falling on her sword to demonstrate the right thing to do will have zero affect at an election.
Well played sir, well played!
I think fair minded tories,if there are any left, would be mightily pissed off if starmer and raynor stood down whilst Johnson and Sunak stayed.
I’d imagine a fair few are sick of the cunt already
Agreed. Unfortunately, they are totally messageless as a party: have been for years.
No wonder people can’t/ won’t vote for them. It seems that the “vote for us just because we aren’t Tory” tactic (?) isn’t washing.
works for me.
Seems to be working well enough for the Lib Dems in parts of the cuntry also.
Until they can become: Concise, Cohesive, Understandable, Relatable, Open to Murdoch, strong on the internet and ‘City friendly’ It all just looks like a hot confused mess.
If that all sounds a bit ‘Tony Blair’ it’s worth noting this approach worked. (He sucked and so did the war but he had appeal, clarity and was tolerable)
…Alternatively they could sit down with Lib Dems and Greens with a dictionary and look up the word alliance.
