....more armchair politics (Part 2)

Nowt to do with me but I know he got a fair bit of abuse in Lerwick.

Can’t see his presence being welcomed anywhere north of the border, particularly the islands. Was that the extent of his visit?

So the Populist-in-Chief Robert Generic has called for the parents of the Southport murderer to be deported.
The same parents who were scared of, and had reported their son to the police and Social Services several times, but were ignored.
The same parents who were refugees from the genocide in Rwanda, need to sent back to Rwanda !

Did you not think this through you vacuous piece of shit ?!?

Send them back to Rwanda to face certain death. A ā€˜safe country’ according to the Right Wing.

Yes, death for having a wayward son, but committing no crimes themselves.

The Turdy/Deform Oxygen Thief needs culling!

*Yes, he struck a nerve

I’d be fascinated to see, if there had been a serious effort to do that, whether it could be challenged under the Geneva convention’s prohibition of collective punishment.

I might get that printed on a tee-shirt and spend sunny afternoons on College Green, standing behind politicians while they’re being interviewed for the TV news.

This is complete horseshit because……

A) No civil servant would ever make an isolated decision like this
B) The FO never wanted Mandelson, they moaned like crazy he has no diplomatic experience.

I’ve so often been Starmer’s defender, but the sheer number of senior civil servants etc that have fallen on their sword while he pleads ignorance is unacceptable. Either he has no clue whatsoever, and is therefore incompetent, or he did, in which case this should be on him.

I’m so disappointed with him. I really thought that he would be competent, the first PM that could claim that since Blair (and competent but evil was never ideal). Bah.

I’ve been suspicious of the whole Mandelson, McSweeney, Steve Reed, Trevor Chinn, Labour Together cabal that Starmer was anointed leader of, for a while. Can’t say I’m that surprised their power grabbing project has started to implode.

Trust is broken

It absolutely baffled me how he got that Ambassador role in the first place.

He should have been absolutely toxic to any leader/PM given what is out in the public domain about his corruption, sackings, Epstein antics etc. Let alone what the security services (or whips) may have on him given the ā€˜rumors’ about his penchant for young blokes and Bolivian marching powder.

External influence from the US, strongly advising that he should be appointed?

Paul Holden is really interesting on the rise of Labour Together.

I just can’t believe that UK politics has come to this. There’s not a competent or trustworthy party out there, there simply isn’t.

I wonder whether there are two factors at play with this:

  1. At grassroots level, it is populated mostly by older people who are well off- they’re out of touch!

  2. At higer levels, big corporates fund these parties and want something in return.

Both, unfortunately mate. 2 is more powerful than 1 I suspect.

Locally to me, 1 always gets it’s own way when it comes to Planning Applications and has fingers in many cash rich pies.

Generally 2 is a much bigger problem, although I reckon it is very much rooted in 1.

…… and the way the system is set up, you can’t get to ministerial level without being a corrupt shyster. Few seem to even get to MP level.

Yes, that shit really needs to be fixed. I just don’t know how this could be done.

FWLIW it’s not - at least not Lab, Lib and Green - but the grassroots have absolutely no influence on how the parliamentary end of the party operates, far from it - they are mostly completely ignored except for occasional dictats from on-high.

e.g. When I was involved with Labour a few years ago, The Party had no idea our Local Group even existed despite it having existed continuously since the birth of Labour, and they had no idea we had a candidate for election as MP, and when told, ignored us and parachuted a standard issue middle-class white boy from London into the seat, causing our very excellent candidate and a number of party officials and members to resign. After his abject failure, we were ignored completely from that point on. In three years they never even managed to issue me with a membership card, after which I resigned.

tl:dr - there is no democracy in grass-roots democracy
