Germans wouldn’t see it. Just checked with our girls, who are basically native German speaking. I had to explain, then the eldest literally got tears in her eyes from laughing. Her sister, 12, claims she’s too young for this type of humour

I wonder if she means smile, without altering their facial expression ?

We once had central heating fitted into a first floor flat. It looked like a timber suspended floor. But when the fitters lifted the first board they found solid concrete, then battens, with the boards fitted on top of the battens. There followed exhibition-standard swearing. The battens were about 35mm deep. So room for 22mm pipe, but not room for two of them to cross one another. I think in the end they only had to ‘excavate’ the underside of a floorboard once.

God I loved TPE. One of the best live bands around when I was at University. I must have seen them 5 or 6 times in a couple of years in the second half of the 1980s.
