Most memorable gigs?

Faith no More and / or Jane’s Addiction in the Venue in Edinburgh. Tiny sweatbox of a place. Both acts were a lot bigger than they were when the tour was originally booked, consequently both gigs were quite frenetic.

Close 3rd Pop Will Eat Itself at Calton Studios (just down the road from the Venue) at about 2am. That was a pretty odd night.

I am really struggling with this. Today’s answer will be:

Spacemen 3 Dingwalls June 1988 (with support from My Bloody Valentine who I have no memory of)

Spiritualized Astoria November 1993

New Order SFX Dublin 1982, 1983

Siouxsie and the Banshees SFX Dublin 1983 (I think)

The Cure Hammersmith Odeon April 1982

Any and all Durutti Column gigs I was lucky enough to attend.

I was there too. :ok_hand:

Weird atmosphere at that gig. Brooding and intense to say the very least.

Yes! Powerful record. I just remember the sound, I think it was Pink Floyd’s sound system which was based around Vitavox horns and drivers. A Strange Day was awesome. Pretty sure they were at breaking point at the time.

Loads of memorable ones for many reasons

Prodigy (every time I have seen them) but this was memorable for the lineup:

Warriors of Dance Festival, Milton Keynes 2010

Prodigy
Chase and Status
Pendulum
Enter Shikari

Kraftwerk RAH
Brian Wilson
Roger Waters
Carole King
Yello

Police Zenyatta Mondatta tour also Milton Keynes bowl in about 1980?
U2 on their War tour in 1982 (I think)
Specials
Pogues
Chase and Status (everytime I have seen them)
Cramps
Chemical Brothers (for how bad they were)
Congo Natty
Stormzy
Kano
Death Grips

I don’t recall the sound at the show despite the fact I have a recording of it somewhere here. I remember it being very dark because of the spartan lighting design and being struck by just how muted the audience response was, as they were pummeled by the entire Porngraphy LP (which was released the following week IIRC) and the vast bulk of Faith. I have a very strong memory of the crowd responding enthusiastically to the encore of 10:15 and Killing an Arab only for the last tune to be an improvised dirge called All Mine which put the dampers firmly on any fun.

We were at the 1984 gigs at Hammersmith which were mad, but nowhere near as memorable.

I saw them on the Faith tour the year before, which was great but that Hammy Odeon gig was something else. It was the first time RS did the smeared lipstick, back combed hair thing, which was quite a look, that and the red/pink lighting. Glad we can share, was one of my favourite gigs ever. I left there really blown away.

The Undertones - UEA 1981. My first gig, just turned 14 and it changed my life. Still my favourite gig.

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings - the Stables 2003. Perfection.

Nic Jones - Sidmouth 2013. Not a dry eye in the house.

John Murry - The Musician 2013. Less than a hundred people there and it was the most intense live performance I have seen. His partner had broken off the relationship earlier in the day ……….

John Grant - RSC Stratford 2014. One of the very few gigs Erica has attended - seeing her transfixed with tears running down her cheeks during Marz will live with me forever

One of the best live bands I’ve seen, a mate of mine was the drummer of: Fatima Mansions. I went to pretty much every London gig they played from '88 onwards and they were always good. Sometimes though, they could be incendiary. Cathal Coughlan could be absolutely mesmeric, particularly in small venues and or if he had been riled by something. He’s a brilliant writer anyway but often he would change the lyrics to songs on the spot to highlight something topical, or go off on a surreal monologue. He could be intense, hilarious and pretty scary and sometimes all three. They reformed for a birthday party sometime ago and played 2 songs in a room above a pub. Blues for Ceaucescu and a cover of Neil Young’s Fucking Up. Fabulous to see him whipping up the young and old into a frenzy, some of them weren’t sure whether to be offended or take off all their clothes and go berserk. One of the best front men ever and I miss them so much. At their best they could take you some place else and make you lose your shit! :flushed:

For musical proficiency i’d say Morrissey Mullen
Saw them numerous times at The Clay Pigeon in Ruislip and Production village Cricklewood around 80/81/82
