The American remake with Nicholas Cage City of Angels sucked absolute balls. They just didn’t get it.
Similarly the remake of Nikita. She’s gamine, that’s half the point, but America be like “nope, beauty = blonde with big norks” 
Sorry for the rant. I think I’ll have to swerve any more 80s European arthouse, so maybe try this one on for size
