I looked him up after JPR died & was surprised to see him still going.

Amazing to think he only played 30 tests for Wales and the Lions and retired at 27!

As great a player as Phil Bennett was, I don’t think he would have got a cap for another 5 years if Barry John had kept playing.

Big loss. I’ve seen him play twice. Once at the Northcote Social Club in Melbourne with a grab-bag band backing him and once at the Kazimier in Liverpool when Mugstar played as his sound carriers. Epic, although tune-free, gigs.
