Last night I made a garlic chutney to go with the curry I’d cooked the night before. Dried red chillies soaked in hot water blended with a couple of bulbs of garlic (we ate the whole lot between the two of us :P), cumin/coriander and gently fried in oil with mustard seeds- with a small amount of lemon juice added after removing from the heat.

To taste it for seasoning, I spread a teaspoon of it on a slice of cheese and ate it with another bit of cheese on top. Fucking. Awesome.

I love that - one of my favourite sandwiches is mature cheddar with lime pickle!

Ulster breakfast Disappointed by absence of white pudding but otherwise decent. Thick cut bacon is very good.

What is the crustless cakey looking stuff at 2 o/c?

Looks like potato cakes or farls depending on location.

My mum made great ones with loads of butter.

Tomato should be cooked more or thrown in the bin.

Two pieces were a mildly toasted soda bread while the third is some kind of potato based pancake thing. This place is the NI equivalent of a Travelodge not some luxury hotel!

Agreed but I ate it instead.

Shouldn’t an Ulster fry-up have ulster fry rather than white pudding?

To be fair it was listed a a traditional breakfast.

Ooh, that’s a new one on me. What is it?

Errr…a pork meat loaf, similar to sausagemeat but not cased…I think.

I see. Looks dark, almost like salami.

I think it varies in colour depending on who’s made it - sometimes it’s quite light, like white pudding.

Given the colour of the tomato, it looks like it needs throwing in the bin regardless.

Ulster fry sounds a lot like Scrapple.

tomato has no place on a cooked breakfast.

A decent tomato is at home on a Greek breakfast with feta, cucumber, olives etc
