This was my set up for a while.
I stole the idea of an off board pod from Stefano (Twogoodears) so I didn’t spoil the original plinth.
I had a Miyajima Zero 0.7, with Miyajima SUT which is a great combination (very hard to fault) but in the end I sold up as I wanted to have a better TT and couldn’t justify/afford 2x TT.
About 100 ish. The difference when playing original Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Beatles, Love etc is worth it alone for me -
This.
You went wrong immediately there. You don’t want or need “reason” going anywhere near this topic: “WANT!” is all that is required. ![]()

I don’t know the exact number of mono albums I have but even with my cheapo TT and AT mono cart the difference isn’t subtle.
I guess most people don’t jump straight to a separate front end to dip their toe in Mono. The average fellow is likely to get a medium range mono cart bung it on their TT get infected with want and loose the plot on the potential thrill of new TT arm cart SUT etc.
‘A most Wabi-Sabi adventure’. (Japanman 2023)
I’m going to loose (sic) the plot soon ![]()
I have to say, I really don’t get the appeal of mono classical. Everything seems to come more alive in stereo, even in stuff like the experimental Beecham pre war (I think) recordings.
Try Westminsters / Nixas etc
No reason needed more turntables equals more happiness ![]()

Time for a gif that combines two of the forums favourite things
You need one turntable for playing records and the other for…

Don’t agree. There are some spectacularly dynamic, rich & colourful mono LPs, far better in those parameters than many stereo LPs.
There are several 60s double issued recordings where I prefer the mono mix to the stereo. The Doors and The Kinks are The Village Green Preservation Society are two that spring to mind
As someone said earlier, stereo was often a contrivance mixed up in a studio & not representative at all of the spatial arrangement of an actual event as it happened. It’s not surprising to me that they were/are sometimes a mess.
there are 12, yes bloody 12 in my lounge. I only use one.
Love ‘Forever Changes’ mono edition is pretty good too.
I often hate the stereo mixes of much late 50’s and early 60’s Jazz, with instruments panned hard to left and right, its just odd sounding. In most cases, the mono of these is nicer.
At least with my digital front end, I can use my DAC’s crossfeed function on those recordings to generate a slightly more realistic sounding stage.
