Given the scale of what you’re trying to sell, and the logistical barriers involved, have you listed these more locally?
If you’re expecting offers and arrangements from here then I’d recommend turning your PMs back on.
I am trying to flog your classical collection to contacts in Luxembourg. Well, one contact who has a lot of contacts.
I’m being asked for a town / region name - maybe you could DM me?
Also a ballpark price. Are we talking €100 or €10,000?
Thanks.
edit: I’ve just thought of a couple of other people who could make the drive. Short version, I’ll ask around.
Two ways to look at this: - 1) it’s a jolly 2) Prices are keen but the costs of collection cancel the bargains. I can think of half a dozen classical specialists who would go through that collection but none who would travel that far on a punt.
I kind of like the idea of a nice non commercial trip and a drive with treasure at the end - I hope this lot all finds a good home.
Get the car ready, and I’ll book the Eurostar
You might have to be careful driving back…
If you don’t declare it all.
That’s a sizeable hit if you get asked to pay duties.
Any idea how they would work out duties on 2nd hand items?
Don’t know if I’m honest. Apart from looking at receipts.
I’m not an expert… just worth considering.
I mean a weekend of food and wine in France sounds like it wipes out any form of discount on the vinyl itself lol
Short version:
"There are six methods to determine the value of goods:
Method 1: Transaction Value
Method 2: Transaction Value of identical goods
Method 3: Transaction Value of similar goods
Method 4: Deductive Method
Method 5: Computed Method
Method 6: Fall-back Method"
#6 can = simply guess at it if no other way of evaluating value is possible. You either cough-up or appeal it - burden of proof is on you.
They can also impound your van/goods for as long as it takes to make-up their minds. And they can charge you for storage if they do so. All of this is discretionary, so it doesn’t always happen. But rock-up to a customs point in a well-stuffed hire van / estate car and you’re pretty sure to be turned-over.
So definitely worth acquiring authoritative valuations beforehand and registering the import via HMRC - but still no guarantee (it’s HMRC after-all…) and beaucoup ballache…
To get an idea of final costs with goods where I know the value, I add 30% to cover all of the taxes, duties, and assorted charges that you’ll be hit for.
Paper receipts for comedy value (real ones hidden) won’t wash either. They can smell an undervalue a mile off.
Flipside is they’re desperately understaffed and much more concerned with lorryloads rather than vanloads, so can choose to wave-through anyone with rare, obscure bits of hifi that don’t show-up on their database at face value.
The question you’ve got to ask yourself is
tell them they are your LPs and you carry them around as ballast or the car lists over
Mobile (classical) disco ?
Get some DJ bling and ham it up. If you want to really excel, add some props on the way out so your car doesn’t look empty!
You won’t get many LPs in the back of that.
But at least they won’t get wet.
Anyone concerned about customs could consider turning the LPs into flower pots and claiming to be on the way back from a trade show…
Hang an Evinrude off the back and you won’t even need the ferry…
A few Jack White / White Stripes and a 1999 Summerteeth. Just saw that a copy of the latter sold for €260 last month. The world’s gone mad
Just came across a Bob’s Devices /Sowter 1:10 SUT while I was looking for the Rega arm for Stu. Who knew? Anyway, added to the now quite long list of stuff for sale.
Have you thought of l’ebay?
