Looking forward to this.
If any one has a wustof, henckels or misen 8" kitchen knife i would really appreciate al look at one. Not many knife shops, or shops of any kind, in Barrow.
Not looking to buy Japanese or Global, but don’t let that stop you
Well this is a new kind of bake off.
I can probably bring an Audio Innovations 300 if there are any suitable speakers coming
Umm… There is a Knives and Sharpening thread… just sayin!..
I have a Lavardin IS integrated I could bring. Is anyone bringing speakers or a turntable?
I have a Voyd/HR100S/IO Gold/Slagle SUT available if required?
I’m happy to bring any part of my system except speakers (car space).
We could swing by and pick anything up if you like
That may be useful, thanks.
I’m unlikely to arrive at Settle until after 10pm on Friday.
I can bring my venerable Celestion Ditton 15 Loudspeakers. My Tannoys are way to bulky for Alison.
I can bring B&W DM2’s (like last year, biggest thing I’ve got to fill a biggish room).
I’ve got a pair of these (sorry it’s in French)
which I could bring. They were popular in France it seems (they won a Diapason D’Or award) but like so much French stuff they’re much rarer outside the republic.
Quite a few years ago now Bob @ICHM flagged this pair up, maybe it was even over on the Wam. List price was the thick end of €3k new but these were going for a song in a small shop in Reading (might have been a guitar shop, or even house clearance ?). He rated them for their efficiency and said that although the manufacturers recommended 150-300W amps they were actually well-suited to lower power valves. Given the price I couldn’t resist.
Compared with my NS1000s they’re not uncoloured, but that’s true of a lot of speakers. The Nigers are a good deal stronger in the bass. But they are only 4ohms so they present a bit of a challenge to some valves. Anyway, if anyone fancies hearing them then sing out. The chance probably doesn’t come up very often.
The big proviso with my whole life at the moment is Claire’s health, of course. For now she’s getting by OK and we learned from the consultant yesterday that they’re not about to swing her into heavy chemo, which we feared was coming. So Settle still looks like it could be on for me. But if she needs me, either before or even during, then I will have to be here instead.
They look interesting Graeme Hope you manage to make it ok.
Starting to look good on the kit front - great!
Can anyone bring a pizza oven or BBQ?
I think that @coco and I are going to be bringing power amps, speakers and possibly a pre that should be adequate. The only problem is that you have to sign an NDA before you can look at it all.
Hi,
It is looking good! I should be up for all this tomfoolery!
I’ll sort out some money tomorrow.
Does this place were going to have a name and a postcode?
Yes, it’s Hornby Laithe bunk barn, and the postcode is BD24 9PB. It’s about 2 miles north of Settle on the B6479…
Put the postcode into Google maps and it marks the bunkhouse.
You can use Streetview to “drive” to the entrance and see the turning to the bunkhouse. See
Settle 2022 Sep 16-18th - #132 by octh for a photo of the turning. Drive through the entrance and downhill to the barn in the valley. Please park neatly in the large area either side of the track in front of the buildings. Leave the track between the wooden barn and the stone bunkhouse free for the caving outfit that uses half the barn.
Same as last year, please don’t go to the bunkhouse until after 3pm. Ye Olde Naked Man in Settle does good tea and cakes if you arrive early in town.
Remember to bring a sleeping bag or sheet+duvet, pillowcase and towel and washing kit.
A folding chair might be useful for sitting outside (though plenty of seating on west side of building)
The bunkhouse website is: https://hornbylaithe.co.uk/
There’s a Co-Op in Settle centre, and a small Booths (like upmarket Waitrose) on Kirkgate, If needed.
