Settle 2024 Friday Sep 6th to Sun Sep 8th

The M6 from Manchester to Stafford was horrendous. Heavy rain with lots of standing water and spray. Thankfully most folks were doing 50 mph and leaving a suitable gap for the conditions.

I was so impressed with the pizza oven I now have one, Collect it yesterday Hardy used , With a unopened bag of pellets, Infared temp gun, a new unused gas burner , Peel and lastly the cover , Everything still with the original boxes and the owners handbook, Looking forward to the first go . :grinning:

All the pizza things.

ALL OF THEM.

Now you just need to get proficient at the bases.
Get a tin of decent san marzano tomato based sauce, some dry ish mozzarella (I find the shop stuff is often a bit wet) and you are nearly there.

A lot of supermarkets sell this which is a decent way to start when you don’t need the making hassle, or bulk order of dough

That is pretty much the joy and the agony of all this.

Its a skill that’s worth learning.

At least my efforts at the weekend didn’t scare anyone off.
I banished the rolling pin, although I don’t discount it for anyone new as it’s a better option than getting stuck and having no base at all.

You nailed it at the weekend mate. All the drama was at the oven end with one or two not having enout flour on the shovel thing. Myself included.

Update on my 1st effort
Epic fail . I tried the wood pellets , Started with some cylindrical fire starters I also purchased a box of kindling ( all to big to fit in the burner ) It did start eventually , All excited I went into the kitchen to roll out my home made dough with a rolling pin, It was so elastic it kept shrinking back, Eventually put the topping on , Back out to the oven , It had all but gone out , seems the pellets only last a few minutes then burn out , If you put loads in the fire goes out. Then I get a call from my daughter asking if I dropped some water on the utility room floor ?
Long story short after kangoing through the tiles and the cement floor to expose the water pipe It has spring a leak , Had to turn the house water off and drain the systems down , No water in the house now , Doh !!! , Back to the pizza , It was very hit and miss using wood, I do have a new gas conversion and I managed to buy a 19kg full bottle of fbook for £40 , Will swap over to gas for the next go.
Re the plumbers , Made a call to one who must have been a agent , Was told I needed to pay £160 then he would give me the phone number , then I would need to pay a £160 call out charge for the plumber to come out and have a look and quote for the job, I told him this was outrageous and hung up , £320 for someone to knock on the door !!!

If it’s an Ooni, sometimes the pellets get stuck/wedged in the feeder and don’t drop down on to the burner and the fire burns out. You need to push/dislodge the pellets in the feeder by poking - I use a long bbq skewer.

To start the pellets burning, best to use a blowtorch - just a cheap propane disposable canister one will be fine. Put a pile of pellets on the burner and point the flame at the same place on the pile for a couple of minutes until well caught.

If you’re backfilling with cement or concrete or whatever, you should ensure those speedfit fittings are protected.

Else, there will be tears.

I will wrap them in heavy duty plastic sheet as in black builders bags , The pipework has a 20 guarantee, I won’t be here in 20 years maybe even sooner.

The pipe will be fine it is the cement dust getting into the connector which can perish the rubber o-ring.

Denzo tape might be a better bet

Or self amalgamating even better and avoid the petroleum taint.

Wait! Wut?!

Good advice from people that know what they’re talking about?!
