Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today (Part 2)

On the LP12 road to flat earth nirvana.

Linn Troika - managed to find one that hasn’t been retipped etc

Sounds quite good into the AN-S4-L step up

How are you finding them? I acquired a PhaSt stereo 6c33 power amp from the same source last year to run my tweeters but system changes have stalled since then so amps are in limbo.

Bit early to say yet but will send early impressions over next few days - which ones have you got?

Quadratic MC-1 SUT. Not a brand I was aware of until recently. It’s certainly a very solid thing and weightier than it looks. Designed by ex-Pass Labs engineer Jam Somasundram using custom wound Cinemag transformers. It will be interesting to compare it with my EAR MC4 (there is a nice comparison write up here: https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/review-of-quadratic-mc-1-sut-with-comparisons-to-other-suts-2)

It comes with internal jumpers for +22db and +28db settings

Update on my research for a portable player…

The Fiio DM15 looks the best option for cost and quality. BUT there is a damning report on the R2R DAC which appears to be wildly out of tolerance (made in-house and seemingly not quite up to scratch).

Another version goes on sale this month with an AK4493 chipset DAC which I suspect will be the safer option.

Sorted! As it has Bluetooth I can play it outside through the boombox too! I’ve dug out many cds as the Jays CDT3 is so good, and this lets me expand their use.

This one.

Naim Supernait 1

Had one of these years ago and thought it was very good. Pains me to say but it blows the Quad 3 into the long grass.

Seems to be a very good match for the Lintons, much better bass than the Quad and a much clearer/detailed sound as well. Surprising as they are both around the same power and class AB but I guess the Naim will have a bigger traff and caps in the PSU.

And so it begins

haha it never stopped.

at least now I’m doing one in one out, the SN was cheap at £850 and I’m hoping to get that for the Quad 3.

The speakers and TT are most definitely staying though. Bought the speakers new and can’t swallow the loss I’d make on them (and they’re actually very good)

I think I’m just going to play around with integrated amps for a while.

We’ll see…

This looks nice.

I tried naim with isoblue but can’t stand the fraim stuff, that’s far too neat and OCD for me

Not really. The turntable is too heavy to move, and I am a rubbish photog.

With this. Puresound T10. Forward the bass! Thanks John. Hopefully that’s it for box swapping audiophila nervosa for another five years.
