TOYS!!! GIMME!!!

One of my first hifi experiences was hearing a Phase-Linear 4000 pre which was notable for the inclusion of its Auto Correlator circuit.

It included a centrally mounted joystick which seemingly allowed you to throw the image around the room. Why you’d want to be able to do that I’ve no idea.

Had one of those in a Ford Escort in the 80s :grinning:

In keeping with the title and the AA way this is not shiny or new. I’ve been curious about Anti Static solutions for a while and looked into these:

DS Audio ION-001 Vinyl Ioniser - £1,750.00

and this one:

CS Port Static Eliminator IME1 £1,500.00

Both are intended for use by positioning the units over / next to the playing record inhibiting the static that can be created by playing a record.

I started to wonder having played over the years with every static gun commercially made if there is an industrial type unit that might do the job.

There is - Sort of

I had hoped it would be quiet enough to stick it over or near a playing record but the fan is too noisy so I’ve bodged it onto the wall (Thing is in a handy bracket so it can be tilted about) above my record cleaner…Yes record cleaning does wipe out a fair bit of static but this thing really zaps records like a beast. At the moment the zapping happens just when the cleaned record is about finished drying then the record gets played / goes back in it’s sleeve. I have tried some charged records under the thing to see how it does and the charge is dissipated completely in 2 odd seconds or less. £30 - eBay.

I don’t want another one of them. The last time I had collonic the middle aged woman looked deeply into my eyes and said "That’s a lovely release’… I was more freaked out by this than having a tube up my jaxi.

All change! Gotos now being fed by the late Dave’s Coco-san SIT mono amps.

Once I’ve acclimatised myself to the sound of the SITs, the battle of the heavyweight pre-amps will commence - Preda TBSP v M7.

From my experience with both of those I reckon its going to be a question of taste rather than which one might be ‘best’. Quite different presentations.

Looks great but wonder how warm those amp run sat just above your records.

Don’t think that will be an issue Paul, the casework on the SIT amps is huge which (Pete says) will dissipate the heat very effectively.
Also the lightweight, but thick particleboard tops on the IKEA record storage units is a great insulator. :+1:

How are they so far? Must be a somewhat different presentation to the 845s or the Pass Labs(?) amps.

Dunno yet, SITs still warming up…

Ann did well to get them up on those racks for you!
Heavy beasts!

Ah well, I devised a cunning plan - collected Flo from Ilford on the way back from yours to Norfuk, she’s as strong as an ox. By far the heavyest item moved today was Mark’s Argento. That amp weighs more than the feckin moon… :joy:
