Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today V1.2

I’ve spent a couple of hours today setting up the TT (not that easy, very sensitive suspension) and speakers properly and now a few hours listening to a fairly broad sweep of Albums and (I am aware that this is very trite) I could happily live with this set-up and may, indeed, do that.

My main system is certainly not worth it’s 4 times price tag of this.

I clearly undercharged you for the Alto.:grinning:

If only it had remote volume I’d have never sold it.:frowning:

You actually overchatged me

What I don’t get, is that this is the second Alto that I have owned and, on both, I have used less than 10% of the volume range, and this room isn’t particularly small.

Any ideas welcomed Guy @murrayjohnson ?

Those speakers are 89 dB/W at 1M. I doubt you’d be listening that loud most of the time so you’ll be using much less than a Watt.

I can’t recall what the input sensitivity of the amp was, I’d need to get mine out & measure it. It wasn’t freakishly sensitive though as far as I remember.

Thanks Guy. Good job you chose volume pots that were well stereo balanced at very low levels.

I think the pots & switches were all ALPS

I had the same very limited volume knob range in my system.

tight arse cunt, haven’t you got a secret hoard of Nobles you can sell for for fuckton.

Sadly not. The Noble pots did/do tend to get a bit noisy with time but they do sound good

Keen to hear this set up while eating pies. I’ll have to bring some tapes along.

What’s the power amp can’t make it out

I think there’s a lot to be said for a good valve pre, into similarly good solid state power amp.

Looks like one of Edd’s Pass-based creations.

I’ve realised that it takes 4 6922s, 2 per channel. Because there isn’t a massive difference between solid state output mode and valve output mode I suspect the stock valves are more than average. I’ve got 4 Reflektor 6922 here, which I’ll pop in at some point. My pre uses 6922 as well. Here are some stock inner shots.
