Shiny brand new second hand things in my system today V1.2

The lid isn’t pink.:frowning:

The early Scorpio was quite a nice sounding arm.

I’ve just bought a pair of Ruark Templar (Mk1). I don’t need them, but they were very cheap and I have extremely fond memories of the brand new pair I bought way back in 1996 (or thereabouts). Back then, I used to buy brand new things from dealers, following a proper audition (and often a home trial). Nowadays, of course, I just see shiny used things and buy them on impulse.

Anyway, the Templars are just as lovely as I remember them. You can plonk them down anywhere, they don’t need much grunt to make them sing, have a well-judged frequency range (nothing shouts, they are smooth without being dull), they have a beautiful midrange and they are really well built. They are also very small (smaller than I remember them).

I’ve already decided the Templars sound better than the cheap Castle Severn II I bought a few weeks back, so I can sell those on.

I really need to stop buying speakers.

They do sound great with valves but I’m currently having to use my old Sony Integrated and they still sound amazing however I do need to watch the volume levels with it.

Interesting, I’m on the hunt for some compact’ish budget floorstanders for our living room so mainly background music. Main thing is they need to be right up against the rear walls and both the Ruark Templar II and the Castle Severn II have come up as candidates!
Also looking at the Talisman II as they can be had pretty cheap too!

They are ever so slightly better ( ) than the TDL Studio 1’s they’ve replaced, so I’m happy for the moment… :+1:

I have a pair or Royd Apexes incoming - Would these be on your list?
They are a pair I owned for a while and passed on to a mate who has now upgraded.
cheers
Andy

Devialet 120 Expert - all the shiny and blingy.

They’ve abandoned the non Pro Expert range so they’re going cheap but still works with Roon. Have enabled the SAM as it has a profile for the SF Cremona and it sounds bloody good.

What’s the DAC sound like?

TBH I’m blown away by how good this thing sounds, the level of detail and accuracy is just stunning.

It’s very different to valve/horns and it normally takes me a week or two before I decide whether I really like an amp or DAC but from a science or tech perspective this thing is really impressive with what its able to achieve.
