If you use an external Dac, how is it better than a phone?

Because gadgets :+1:

This is a portable music player, that will only be used in emergencies, like hospital stays, or as a complete hifi system, when all else fails.
It has a better DAC, than a phone, a better headphone amp than a phone, and more storage. I have never used a phone for music.

If you connect it to an external dac, it will sound like the dac. And if you don’t use an iPhone, you can generally bung an sd card in

I will not be using it with an external DAC!
It can be used as an external DAC.
See above for other benefits.

You mentioned the external DAC in your first post :joy:

Anyway, I must adhere to my (thanks mods) forum tag line

Collected from an auction house up in Gloucs this morning.

The deck will be attending Mr MWS’s school of ‘correction’.

The Pye stuff is actually tuner, stereo pre and a separate stereo power inside the cabinet which will likely be their SE EL34 design although I haven’t dug that far in yet.

Never seen a 4hf arm used with a 301

Nice! Built-in speaker effort, or separates?

Separate speakers. I don’t know what they were but I could do with the 4 pin connectors that’ll have been at the amp end of the speaker cables.

Most likely a Motzart HFS20…service manual here.

quite high i/p sensitivity but I guess not quite as mad as a stereo 20.

The panel where the pre and tuner are mounted can be pushed back in so they aren’t visible in day to day use. (see below)

When you pulled it forward there was a switch that engaged to, turn it all on. Quite neat really.
