Had a buggered up shoulder for 6 days, been resting it and scrabbling sleep as and when i can. Went to the docs, just had x ray and waiting for consultant review. Doc prescribed some pain killers and an gently floating away on a cloud of 60mg coedine doses. I think it’s just been pulled, hoping for no other damage.
Cause, using a drill with a fully extended left arm, drilling downwards. Hole saw jammed, drill body span round yanking my arm with it.
After lockdown I basically had to replace my entire wardrobe because I’d gone down (at least) a jacket size and (definitely) two trouser sizes.
However over the course of about the last year my weight has been creeping back up and I was a bit annoyed that I seemed to be headed for another wardrobe change. That’s not the case any more.
News from the Ortho consultant, shoulder injury likely a torn cuff. Scan needed to confirm. If it is, then it’s an op with 2 to 4 months post op recovery. If it’s not then it should recover in a few weeks. Bollocks either way.
Update to my post in September
Finally got an appointment to see a Dermatologist.
A few weeks ago got an email from NHS to do an online assessment (presumably to thin out the waiting list) which was reviewed with a recommendation for an urgent F2F appointment with a consultant.
(It was urgent in September)
Anyhow it seems that part of the promises that were made to reduce waiting lists are happening as I have an appointment for Saturday week. (was also offered a Sunday appointment),
Good news as I was expecting to wait until June from the feedback I got last October.
Misjudged the kerb, took a false step and achieved pavement interface. Turns out I’ve torn some of the calf muscle. Taken nearly a week for the bruising to come out.
I’m reminded of one operation when I woke up black from my waist to my armpit.
The notes basically read “we be all jabby jabby, but the sharp thing didn’t go through so we eventually gave up because we were worried that we might kill the dude”.
Scan on shoulder done, no tear, which is good news as no op needed. Cuff top muscle still badly inflamed and reckon another month or two to go, likely some physio too. Back in the queue to get this formally from the Consultant but the scan lady had seen a fair few of these so she is likely to be on the ball with her assessment.
If you can find a good private physio (who probably works at the same T&O centre as your consultant and does this as a part time gig) then I’d recommend getting a few sessions in while you wait for a referral etc, especially now you’ve had the scan back and a diagnosis.
My PSA levels are continuing to rise so I’m booked in for a PET-CT scan this afternoon and hopefully they can find out what’s going on. Can’t say I’m feeling massively optimistic and it will probably be a while before I know the full picture. Follow up appointment to discuss the results booked for next month.
