AOC for President…? Personally, I have a lot of time for her and if in a position to vote, would very seriously consider backing her. Yes, she has some - let’s be tactful - odd ideas, but they are fewer and farther between than critics suggest. And let’s face it - is there a candidate who doesn’t suggest something that raises eyebrows?
The choice between her and Gavin Newsom is a tricky one. A political businessman, or someone who more closely represents a ‘real’ person? Neither appear bad, although Newsom did marry Kimberly Guilfoyle 
which really cannot be in his favour!

AOC says she’s weighing a run for president. And the thing candidates never say: no woman has ever won.
She’s 36, spent the summer documenting her egg-freezing on Instagram, and told the Times: “Life doesn’t wait for you to be ready for things.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was home with Covid last week when she got on the phone with The New York Times and, for the first time, stopped waving the question away.
“Every element of this is something that’s within consideration.”
“There’s an argument that some make that this is a very unique political window and, oftentimes in politics, you do only get one shot. And you don’t — and just in life in general — life doesn’t wait for you to be ready for things. Sometimes life just makes things ready for you.”
She said the calculation isn’t only political.
“I think about it personally. I am 36, I’m about to turn 37 years old — and what that means for my life.”
Over the summer she posted her way through freezing her eggs, shots and all, down to an Instagram update captioned “Bloat check!”
Running would mean giving up the House seat she took eight years ago, when she was a 28-year-old bartender from the Bronx and Joe Crowley was the fourth-ranking Democrat in the House. Nobody in Washington saw it coming. She has not ruled out Chuck Schumer’s Senate seat in 2028 either.
“I don’t think that my decisions would come down to deference.”
Asked what she’d do if Democrats win the Senate in November, she called it “the best possible problem we could have as a country.”
“We’re working hard to have that problem, and I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it.”
Then she went where Democratic candidates are trained not to go.
“Pretty candidly, I think about my identity. I’m not naïve to the fact that we are living under a very regressive administration, and I happen to be a woman, and I, you know, happen to be Latina. And I think that there’s a lot of conversation about electability, and I don’t kind of shy away from those realities.”
She said she usually keeps her race and gender out of it, “because people then just register it as an excuse or a complaint.”
“If you’re asking me about the things that I weigh, of course, that’s part of what I weigh. It’s funny because it’s kind of like, everyone else is allowed to talk about it, but I’m not?”
Then she said it.
“This country has never elected a female president. Why are we pretending that this is not a factor? That doesn’t make it impossible, but to act as though it’s not a factor in anything ever is really a form of, like, denialism.”
She has talked it over with Kamala Harris, who is weighing her own run. She wouldn’t say more than that.
She wasn’t ready in 2018 either.

I think it will be a long time before a woman does win as well, especially a young one. Hilary came close because of Bill and her age.
Was really surprised at how many women being interviewed when Hilary and Camala were running had the opinion that a woman should be a ‘homemaker’ rather than working, let alone politics.
The US still has some really antiquated attitudes.
