Neigh, I don’t believe it.

It was a spur of the moment decision to post it, so I hope no one gets on their high horse about it…

We should have a Gallop poll to see if it has any support

It would be unfair to saddle anyone with the responsibility of running a poll…

But maybe Jim & Malbec could decide between them who to run it, they’re always jockeying for position.

Not sure I like the odds on that one

Be quite a hurdle to overcome, that would.

I wonder what its mane reason for going in there was?

It was hungry and wanted a bit of nosebag?

Gerard Mourou and Donna Strickland get (two thirds of) the Nobel prize in physics

That’s nice for Strickland who, at the time of the work, was Mourou’s PhD student. Perhaps they’ve realised that the student (who also happens to be female) is sometimes as deserving as the group leader (who’s still more often than not male). This wasn’t always the case. Jocelyn Bell Burnell famously didn’t get a share of the prize for discovering pulsars, even though she was the one who made the discovery and then had to argue for its existence with her PhD supervisor, Hewish. He insisted that it was just noise. But in the end he got the prize.

I’ve never met Donna Strickland but I did work alongside Mourou occasionally. He is (let’s be generous) a ‘character’.
