Twitchers Revisited

Indulgent day at RSPB Arne playing with my new 200 - 600 lens and a new (to me ) Scope.
Photographically nothing of any note to show but a well overdue very enjoyable day.

Can you get birdseed laced with sedative ? I suppose it would be tricky managing the dose.

Since Firecrests are insectivorous there wouldn’t be much point.

When it is submitted for acceptance I suspect the origin will be the issue. Every other record for this species has been coastal or remote island. How it managed to get to West Yorks from the Americas will be a subject for much discussion. Also, it IS a known aviary bird in Britain…

Of course, ALL of the people that have successfully twitched it are making desperate attempts to justify its provenance, whereas those that haven’t are just muttering escape

Quite honestly, I couldn’t care less, they can have their bun fights until the cows come home, only the rarities committee (BBRC) will arbitrate on it and their decision is final.

Anyway, I’ve seen loads of them in Peru :joy:

Possibly the least unexpected news in the avian world but still very sad, not just for the species but for all of humanity.

It really is worth a 5 minute read. There’s more in there to digest than “just” the extinction of yet another species.

Made the national news this AM - devastatingly depressing story…

 Terrible and completely avoidable.
