Bloody grouse moors!

On a happier note the resident returning Ospreys at Foulshore Moss have 3 eggs, 2 hatched.

Nest Cam URL

A second pair arrived last year and built a nest as well. Unfortunately they built it in a dead swamp tree, so when they migrated the nest was removed, a telegraph pole driven in next to the dead tree, attatched and the nest replaced. The pair of Ospreys returned this year and there are another 3 eggs.

I was surprised at how quickly this hoodie got off the ground, given that it lives at the back of Frankie’s fish & chips in Brae and looked more like an overweight pigeon. Extra gloss on its feathers from all the ingested oil?

Was opening time at the inn?

No idea!

Bet the crow did!

Well, he is a local

More Phalarope action on the sea today, several attempts to mate but the waves kept crashing in and preventing the male (left) from sealing the deal.

A late run out this evening was rewarded with 4 Arctic Skuas performing aerial acrobatics for 20 minutes

Yes, I can count. The fourth bird wasn’t playing ball except when very distant.

What a fantastic environment to be in.

A pair of Red-throated Divers, this evening, nesting on the same small lochan that they’ve used for at least the last four years. I suspect they are on eggs by now so (hopefully) there will be a couple of chicks within 4 weeks.

Well that’s just lead to a fascinating 5 minutes reading up on the Schedule 1 licensing. I’m assuming your license is based on scientific research?

I wondered if he was causing a Schedule 1 Disturbance. We only get those round here on hot Saturday nights if Didcot Town have lost.

Pretty much, yes.

This is an extract from my license

I could get other species added if anything outside of that list decides to breed here

In your case, are points 2-4 standard includes of the license, or are they something you’re actually likely to need to do?
