Juvenile Red-legged Partridge

Juvenile Red-legged Partridge

Hmm … could be, but I remember them being a bit greyer and longer-necked (I imagine it can lift its head up and down though). I was looking at some pics of the adults on the web and I certainly saw some adult red-legged partridges. They were in the field rather than on the path though. The hens on the path were plainer. Are partridges found in the same places as pheasants ?
VB
Often, yes
Gives the chaps a bit of variety while they’re blasting away doesn’t it? One gets so bored with the constant squadrons of tame pheasants cruising overhead…
Each evening hundreds of jackdaws gather in the chestnut tree just along from us. At almost exactly the same time each evening* they set off together down to the town to roost (not sure precisely where)
Brother in Law filmed them tonight from the back door step.
Gotcha!
Good but I have to admit I’m getting bored of ‘amazing’ pics of Ospreys etc catching fish, becoming a photographic cliche
Yesterday I saw a formation of Canada Geese flying along the Mersey, I counted 60 but there were probably half as many again (my counting was a tad slow). A phenomenal sight but deafening , they really are noisy little buggers.
I love seeing and hearing them fly over.
They were hugging the water, couldn’t have been more than a couple feet above it and were joined by other geese from goodness knows where as they flew. The noise seemed to be a rallying cry for others. Even the dog stopped in his tracks and seemed impressed or was just mulling over how he could catch one. Back down there again this afternoon to see if the show is resuming.
@pmac What’s this Paul? Dead on Filey beach but must’ve been quite a thing when alive.
Gannet
I’m not Paul but looks like a Gannet, Guy.
Boom, forum Snap!
Indeed!
Largest seabird in the Northern Hemisphere - >1.5m wingspan
Do you get many up your way Paul? Beautiful plumage and very impressive accurate high diving for fish!
A few, around 25,000-30,000 breeding pairs in Shetland ![]()
Ha! Bit like Shetland Starlings then🤣!
I’ve seen them at a distance dive bombing off the Cornish coast but not having seen one up close, I hadn’t appreciated the size.
Watching a couple of chough, a type of crow, over us as we walked today. Very distinctive sound.
