It was playing in the shop, but it was the guy’s personal copy.
Had a mooch on Bandcamp and the cassette comes with a side order of download, so that’s a win-win. Cassette-enjoying buddy gets the tape, and I get the download.
as an exercise in celebrating my stupidity just spanked £130 on tom mcrea debut album. bought the cd when it came out, then turned it down at £50 as too expensive , then again at £85, saw it on discogs for £125 (usual price now seems to be £200 plus
CD is £3 still - still can’t believe I have bought my first £50 plus LP
Remember a friend in the early 80s used to buy special cut albums I think from Germany at £50 a go.
Seemed outrageous then when most albums were around £6.99 or so.
I was chatting with the same friend about this this morning. His reaction was basically “duh, why didn’t you buy it?”. I guess the answer was that I wasn’t completely certain of what I was looking at. I also suggested that if it genuinely was a new record from over 30 years ago then it had almost certainly come from Alex, who lives at the other end of the road.
So I went back and long story short, it was exactly what it looked like, and it was being sold on behalf of Alex, and it is now mine, muwuhahah.
However now I’m not sure whether I should keep it pristine, play it, or give it to my friend as a wedding present.
I can see that at some point in the past I have botched together a “download” of it from other sources. However evidently not all the mixes are available digitally
All bought from Hard Bop Kyoto. Could have easily bought loads more from his very deep stock but wallet/luggage space meant I didn’t. Will certainly revisit with a clearer list of wants, budget and luggage space.
Most are US original or early re-presses, with some Japanese pressing with and without OBI’s. Just working my way through but so far match the VG rating he had given.
