Different times, the level of sales and the buying public’s interest in decent music has declined in direct proportion to the creation of bands for talent shows, X factor etc.
I am not sure you will ever get albums that get the sort of recognition you are talking about.

Instead of Thriller, or Dark Side or Sgt Peppers the biggest thing in sales in the 2000’s was probably Susan Boyle.
