S3 done. Enjoyed that, best of the 3 ![]()
The wife now tells me that it was the same woman who did Nomadland which is another 100% unequivocal recommendation.
I remember watching this at the time, and it was quite possibly the funniest thing I watched in ages. The Maestro…
It reminds me of Star Wars Episode 1, taking a much loved franchise and flushing it down the toilet. Ignoring everything that made the earlier films good and indulging incompetence.
The only good thing it did was bring back the CIA database guy from the first film, that was fun. Everything, everything else was shit.
Excellent.
I had no idea of the depth of his political involvement.
There is a recording of him at a gig in Germany in 1984, he says
“I would like to apologise for my government’s arrogance and my people’s ignorance”
God knows what he would say now
I recorded it on a recent showing on Sky Documentaries
3 things of note recently.
Anaconda : Jack Black comedy about a bunch of friends who decide to remake the 1997 trashy horror film. Pretty enjoyable with a few sharp digs at the film industry and acting generally.
Bad Sisters : We just completed the first series of this Irish set drama about 5 sisters, one of whom is married to an absolute C**t. The remaining 4 plot to bump him off while a pair of incompetent insurance company loss adjusters are trying to avoid paying out after his demise. Pretty good overall.
Hamnet: Well made story of Shakespeare, Anne (Agnes) Hathaway and their 3 children, and how he’s trying to live & work in London while keeping his family together in Stratford. Mostly told from the perspective of Agnes. Some really good acting and very moving in places. Bound to win lots of awards over coming months.
I’ve been thinking about exposition. Thanks to @browellm and his adoration of MI7/II.
With ten minutes to kill before going out, I watched some American NFL analysis programme, and they tell you more about what’s coming up and summarize what they have covered than actually doing anything. Loads of programmes and films weave recaps into the main narrative. Many documentaries are borderline unwatchable because before and after each advert break you get these summaries.
Is the working assumption that people watching anything are likely to be on their phone? Has this permeated programming to such an extent that it has to be taken into account? Have people just got lower attention spans nowadays?
Until now films have been mostly immune, until MI7/II…
The Rip.
Damn fine Saturday night action. The bro’s are on form for some buddy bother.

French thriller. Good IMO.
No idea why the autobox isn’t working.
Moment of Contact (this is the 2nd documentary I’ve seen recently about UAP’s, the other being Age of Disclosure).
This one recounts the details of an incident that allegedly occurred in the town of Varginha, Brazil in 1996. A craft crashed in nearby countryside (cleaned up by the military) & 8 days later two beings were seen & apprehended in the town itself. 3 girls came across one on a bit of waste ground which was later captured by local police whereas a fire crew caught the other one. They were taken to various medical facilities before being taken away by people from the US. One of the police officers who caught the being was covered in a very toxic oily residue & died within 2 weeks.
An interesting watch with various plausible (& quite emotional) witnesses.
Worth a look if that kind of thing interests you.
Snigger ![]()
Oh really? Ok maybe I’ll swerve that one then. Was planning to watch it at some point.
It’s quite a good watch, it’s just the very end that’s a cop out. Not sure what ending it could have had that wouldn’t have taken a far longer film to recount though.
Enjoyed it as a whole, kind of lost some steam towards the end but as far as pre nap goes 7/10
just finished s1 and while it was a bit slow to start and ‘Brady’ was annoying at first, it was worth sticking with as he did get on top of the character further in.
I explained exactly what was happening in the first twenty minutes. The wife was quite impressed when it all unraveled as contemplated.
A bit telegraphed, but fun. Well acted, too.
