What's going on in Plymouth?

BBC News - Emergency services respond to incident in Keyham in Plymouth

Multiple shootings, 1 gunman dead another on the run?

Air Ambulances overhead. Lots of texts and stuff from friends but nothing confirmed. Sounds very sad indeed.

Just reading drake circus was evacuated

Mrs Pilgrim works at Devonport police station , she said some of the stories she’s hearing from the officers attending are tragic beyond words.

It does sound as if the protagonist had some serious issues. I learned quite a lot about ‘Incel/Black Pill’ thinking this morning that I’d rather not have known about.

I’m not on Facebook but can imagine what it was like last night.

Some of the comments that our politicians come out with though :rage:
I do wonder if they believe anything that they say.

I thought the comments Ben Wallace made were just showboating ‘look at me’ bollocks. People knew fairly early it wasn’t a terrorist incident so why he had to do a video that then just turned into a propaganda statement for all the extra funding the conservatives have (not) given the police.

Won’t be long before that movement is declared a terrorist organisation.

I suspect it needs to happen. There’s nothing good there and an awful lot of very dangerous wrong.

Received this text today, and it made me think of those poor people in Plymouth. It sent a shiver down my spine.

“Thank you so much for donating on 5-Aug. Your donation has now been issued to Derriford Hospital, Plymouth. Every donation counts.”

Seemingly the family were trying to get him help. Help which has been slashed away courtesy of the Conservatives.

I think it’s much to early to speculate about reasons for such an awful event but I feel a need.

Yes and he’d posted comments weeks ago that should have raised concerns and triggered action. An example of how disjointed our system is, they collect information about us but never use it correctly.

A tragic event,
I feel for the families, the emergency services that had to deal with it, and the community.
This will likely be blamed on mental health issues where in fact mental health is usually a very small link in a big chain of events.

Not much seems to have changed since this last happened in Cumbria.

Gun ownership, firearms and shotguns, needs to be looked at again.

Indeed, he seemingly had a gun license.

which was revoked and then returned.

Yeah shotguns are still very easy to get, you don’t need to justify the need for them or the amount of ammo etc.

Rifles on the other hand everyone single one has to have a reason to exist and the amount and type of ammo. So for example if I wanted a .22 rifle for target competitions and was a member of a club and active, then you would probably get a licence. But if you then wanted to buy a different type of rifle or caliber but didn’t have a good enough reason you wouldn’t be able to buy it.

Shotguns though, buy as many as you like no issue. It’s up to the police to prove you shouldn’t have them, which can be tough for someone under the radar who behaves well during the checkups.

I think everything should be on a firearms certificate and treated the same, end the easy rules for shotgun certificates.

The only people that should be allowed to have shotguns are farmers or people who live in rural areas where there is a need for one.

There is no reason for anyone else to have a firearm of any sort. If you want to target shoot etc the gun should be kept at the club or range in an armoury.

I cannot think of a single reason why a member of the public should be allowed to have a firearm at home, especially in the middle of Plymouth.
