Turtle as the creator was a widespread belief amongst many tribes so I would say yes.
Saw a few of these signs on yesterday’s long walk, all around swampy terrain. Exact sort of place nesting turtles are this time of year

It’s a brave man or a fool that mixes it with snappers 
It’s the sheer speed they can strike that’s astounding!
They are huge 
A lot of wetland has been restored or engineered in the last 30ish years in the Toronto area, so they’re a pretty common sight.
More young emerging from nests and entering areas where they stand a chance of being killed or injured at this time of year. This was by a swamp right next to a very popular cycling/walking trail
