World War 3

According to naval lists Iran still has four attack submarines, so that score may yet be levelled-up.

Iranian missile intercepted in Turkish airspace.
You have to think that was a mistake.
Turkey is a NATO member. Strategically Iran can’t afford the possibility of Article 5 being invoked.

The US are complete idiots for following Israel into this. I can’t see any good outcome for them.
All the countries that have US bases around Iran must be thinking of booting them out when this ends.

Was listening to lbc earlier banging on about extremism in Iran but failing to mention the extremism in the US.

Always remember Bush saying he heard gods voice telling him to attack Iraq,it’s a great get out clause when things go to shit, don’t blame me,blame god.

Remember sutcliffe trying the same defence at trial saying god had told him to kill prostitutes. Didn’t really pan out for him though.

Not sure how well the US will do in Iran — Iran’s been shaping up for this sort of thing for a few decades now. The Gulf isn’t exactly new ground either (Lots of mountains in Iran tho). Back in the 80s during the Iran–Iraq war you had the (W)“Tanker War”, with the US promenading oil convoys through the Gulf just to keep tankers moving and the markets from having a shit fit.

Once energy infrastructure starts getting hit refineries, terminals, ports etc markets tend to go a litle Tonto. The choke point is still the Strait of Hormuz. A 5th of the world’s oil goes through there, so even a partial disruption tends to send prices, insurers and traders up the spout.

The really ugly lever isn’t oil, it’s water. Many Gulf states rely heavily on desalination for drinking water…Saudi gets about half its supply that way. If desal plants start going bang, things get messy rather quickly. People get funny when the taps stop working in the desert.

It’s not so much that Saudi or Oman “prop up” the US economy / markets, but that Gulf supply shocks hammer global prices and markets. The US and the UK has spent decades selling the region some very serious kill kit — Saudi’s been most greedy with deathy machines. If they can’t ship oil or drink water they might start feeling quite cross and go banzai using a few of the hell toys we’ve been so happy to sell them. All the time. A lot.

The worry is the drag of an alliance that clearly isnt

As with them attacking all their Arab neighbours, I’ve heard it suggested they might be prepared to do anything just to get more people into the fight.

Right now they’re being crucified by two psychopaths, one with no sense of humanity whatsoever (look what they’ve done to Gaza) and the other with ambitions to be the world’s top bully and with lots of hardware they’ve no other use for. Perhaps they think if they can get the whole of NATO involved then somehow the ones with a bit of long-term vision will try to restrain the nutter. IMHO they’re wrong if they do think that, but what do I know ?

Fixt

Apparently Cyprus are jumping-up and down because a few drones headed Akrotiri’s way, and despite weeks of warning it’ll be another week at least before an air-defence capable destroyer can be deployed by the RN to the region…

And a ‘US tanker’ (for any given value of ‘flag-of-convenience’ :toilet: :roll_of_paper:) is apparently ablaze in the Gulf…

Jolly japes.

This fucking fuckstick can fuck off.

The Americans can’t articulate a reason for war, there is no stated end game, it’s escalating, but sure we should just go wading in.

Warmongering idiot.

A damning indictment of the state of modern politics - whatever the other guys are doing: criticise it, claim you’d do the opposite, even if it’s supporting an illegal (and very stupid) war.

Not helped - as always - by Labour dismally failing to manage the messaging around this, plus the not-unrelated matter of the media handling Fuhrage’s propaganda for him.

What a fucking World.

I thought this thread was a pretty astute take on why disengaging on this, as so many other of the mental cunt’s other follies have turned out, will be nigh on impossible.

Complaints have been filed by American military personnel stationed in the region that they have been told by (smiling) officers that Trump has been anointed by god to bring about Armageddon so we can all die and meet Jesus

I’ve struggled to find anyone who thinks the us and Israel are going to do well in this war.

Don’t usually watch galloway but have seen this Scott Ritter talk many times about the Middle East

This post of his was chef’s kiss territory:

The reason? America and Israel have been itching for this war for decades and they’ve realized it’s now or never.
Iran has been “months away” from building a nuclear weapon for most of my adult life

Utter madness

It still amazes me that the military don’t just walk away when a war like this starts up.

As Frankie said;

War breaks out and nobody turns up.

The US would be truly bonkers to try a land invasion as both Turkey and Iraq would tell them to fuck off and they’d get absolutely trounced going in by sea.

The strongest reason I can think of why this was started is so Israel can bomb Iran (and Lebanon) off the map.

“We’re going to cut off all trade with Spain,” Trump said during a sit-down with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office. “We don’t want anything to do with Spain.”
