WTD: Sony Walkman

No worries and thank you for looking. It’s given me a little time to do more research on what kind of Walkman she had (but sadly without definitely being able to confirm which one she had. I think it may have been a DD quartz but still not 100%.

Best of luck with the project. It’s a fantastic idea of yours. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

A DAT Walkman?

I had no idea that such a thing existed, although I guess it’s logical.

Surely that has to be worth something on eBay?

That advert is £250 for the strap…

I did have a quick look when I found it… £700, from memory… :scream:

Edit: checked again £200-880,conditiin dependant?

Cockpunch to me edit🤦🏻 : the one for 880 has shit loads of mint condition accessories!

Bloke at uni had one, and managed to record me actually getting up to the top trombone part of Schumann 3 on it.

Vaguely connected, I do have a Teac R9 in the stack that really isn’t doing anything at the moment…

Wonder how the dat would sound wired up to your system

Honestly no idea? Don’t remember owning it, so assume I must have bought it for recording live stuff… I seem to have a box full still sealed dat tapes, but no opened/used ones, so :man_shrugging:
I also found a few leads with wierd connectors on them, and a stick to the wall flat plate microphone the type of which I vaguely recall being used in smaller recording studios as an ambient mic? This must have been before the days OF DAW’s and easy computer recording availability?.. Enough chat about stuff of which I have no previous recall… & apologies to @crimsondonkey for the off topic wanderings.

I have some recorded ones,no idea what’s on them and have no way to try them

Clearly one if us is gonna have to use the postal service. I’ll see if the machine works first, and we can go from there?

So it appears the auction lot I won for a pair of nice Walkmans, also had Sony minidisc Walkman, and a Walkman DAT and another DAT recorder.

If anyone has any surplus blank DAT tapes, or stuff with recorded material on it, please get in touch. I’ll need something to test the machines when they arrive.

Same for any minidiscs to use to test.

Haha… As previously discussed with Stu I have a box full of blank DAT tapes, but not one recorded one! :man_shrugging: :man_facepalming:

I might have a minidisc or two still knocking around….

Got any spare you might want to sell me - just need 1 or 2 to check record and playback.

Drop me a message via PM and I’ll send :index_pointing_at_the_viewer: a couple or 3, no awkward exchange of that horrible money stuff required. :upside_down_face: :+1:

I’ve found the tape Hel was reminiscing about. Turns out I also had a copy (it’s end to end 80s synth pop so no surprise) which I’d forgotten about.

I remember that compilation so well. I was 16, with a magnificent wedge; plum fringe (sister was a hairdresser).

Thrilled to discover Fashion’s ‘Move On’, their album came out the following year.

There was a TV commercial - the sound of youth clubs and back bedrooms:

That looks like so much fun I’ve just assembled a digital version.

Missing a couple of tracks :slightly_frowning_face: . Puzzling that I don’t have Charlotte Sometimes kicking around.

So here’s the job lot I bought unseen.

Two nice Walkman cassette players. Both power but neither work. Suspect the DC2 has the cracked reel gear ; the 6DC hopefully is just a belt and the dreaded chip is ok.

Two Walkman DATs, one being a recorder. Not powered them up yet as need to find a power supply.

Walkman mini disc, also not powered up yet.
