That is a real surprise. I always think of Peel as of indeterminate middle age. He is 15 years dead this October and sorely missed in this household.
It was his show, and sessions by The Banshees, Joy Division and his playing the first Durutti Column LP regularly when it came out, that kick started my real interest in music. That was 41 years ago
