I’m aware of the Andy McKee one, but this young lad is very good:
One of my fave Bonzo Dog tracks… peak Viv!
The studio version on “A Doughnut in Granny’s Greenhouse” is superb.
I have all their early albums on vinyl - sq is still astonishing!
Need to get hold of some of their stuff.
I only remember their name and urban spaceman as a kid.
Was watching another documentary on Vivian stanshall narrated by John peel. He was saying him and capt beefheart would regularly speak on the phone, and was wondering what their conversations were like
Although Viv Stanshall was the face of the Bonzos, the musical genius was Neil Innes.
The TV series “The Innes Book of Records”, in the late 1970s was superb.
I worked with one of the many session guys who performed live with them - by day, Jim Chambers, but for the life of me I can’t recall what name he used as a performer. He also performed with Bob Kerr’s Whoopee Band. When he wasn’t doing that he was a highly regarded ichthyologist at the NHM, and rose to a pretty senior level before he retired. Sadly died quite recently.
Performing in the Museum itself.
Wonderful reminisce I approve.
Oh please, will you just feck off. I can’t afford this sh1t.
Used to see The Tatty Ollity band fronted by Roger Ruskin Spears with Sam Spoons of the Bonzos
They had a singer and trombonist who played in Bob Kerr’s Whoopee band.
I think they all knew each other and line ups of these ‘spin off’ Bonzos bands were pretty fluid.
I like this version too:
The current goings on in campuses across America reminded me of this.
I am sure a lot of Americans remember and may be one reason why they show a bit of restraint when breaking up the protests
I saw Harvey Andrews perform this while supporting Ralph McTell when I was about 16.
I have never forgotten it
