YouTube music ramblings

Covers of this seem to abound - which given its origins and intent is pretty bizarre! Evidently trying to add a bit of edge to acts like dear ol’ Suzi and [e.g.] Duran Duran as they slid from relevance…
Only vaguely credible cover I’ve heard was Grace Jones’, and it’s still a bit crap…

Love this track

Another warm leatherette cover
No idea why it’s been covered so much.

J.G.Ballard Crash vibe? Desire to appear edgy? Always felt Hoodlum Scientists an ideal band name for those tired of mining the works of William S. Burroughs.

I’ve never heard this version before.

The tracking in the video is a bit off but it doesn’t detract from just how good it is I think

Love this cover of one of my all time favourite songs.

This is… interesting.

Vocal grates on first hearing, then sounds great after three plays.

Suburban Lawns, with their song ‘Janitor’. Demme produced one of their videos.

Nico on speed backed by the Undertones :grinning:

Been enjoying this as I work.

Originally recorded in 1955 :exploding_head:

Not Youtube, but seems the best place for this:

Chris Cornell of Soundgarden / Audioslave fame. Singing One. Except he’s singing the lyrics to Metallica’s version, to the tune of U2’s version. And it works phenomenally well. It’s quite weird because the only other place I’ve come across this sort of thing is ISIHAC doing rounds of One Song to the Tune of Another, invariably involving Jeremy Hardy absolutely strangling a cat with his efforts.
