Could it be you’ve got a small black hole hidden somewhere in your kitchen (maybe under the fridge ?) and it’s distorting the space-time locally ? If you turn the lights out and there’s a mysterious glow coming from somewhere then that could be its Hawking radiation. Just a thought.
