Heathrow

well looks like its been approved … will it ever happen though ?

Only if they can prove their case for meeting Air Quality targets.

By the time they get it built airliners will be using dilithium crystals instead of Avgas, so no nasty fumes.

If builders & plumbers went to work occasionally instead of going on twelvety fiftieth holidays every year, they could get rid of the second runway at Heathrow, not have to build a third…

its Luton, Stansted and Southend Airports that’d need a second runway to service them

Never happen at Luton. It would involve building into Hertfordshire… Second runways don’t always help, particularly where the airspace above is already full.

that of course is true - we would never allow that. They could raze Luton town centre. No one would notice…

they need to be more adventurous with airport runways

Many many years off…

is it a potential thing?!

It could be. It wouldn’t be a free for all though, they aircraft would have to be under rigid control ! Whereas at the moment, most approaches into the big airports are flown by ILS guidance ( instrument landing system ), an alternative would be MLS ( microwave landing system ). MLS allows for a curved approach.

Luton Airport should be sunk, like Atlantis.

I wonder if it will have doddering old fucks going round and round, before suddenly veering off with no notice like its ground-based counterpart.

Is this the Coriolis effect if the doddering old fucks are sufficiently piss stained? They would drift to the left in the Northern hemisphere and to the right in the southern. You could install a plughole in the middle to deal with the hopeless cases.

What would the residents of Hertfordshire have to whine about if that happened?

:rage::rage::rage: How very dare you? :rage::rage::rage:

Was always gonna be. There never was an alternative proposition, apart from Bozo and his fantasy Island. It will happen, it’s being announced now cause when you’re as unpopular as the current Gov might as well push through all the really unpopular shit.

Agreed but after June.

It strikes me that the whole concept of hub airports is out of date. Nobody wants to change, we all want direct flights. The days of flying from the US to Heathrow and then getting a connecting flight to elsewhere in Europe are surely ending as airlines are getting much better at managing demand.
