SP10 question

Hi Guys
Looking at pictures and info on SP10’s I’ve noticed a few pictures with three black screws going through the top plate just above to start/stop button at about 7pm on the clock face.
Then there are loads which don’t have these three black screws.
Any idea what they are? what they do? and why a few have them and so many don’t?
Thanks

Cueing marks for each speed

Needle on start. Wind back to mark.
Press play and platter at speed when track starts.
All will be ex radio.

Some stations just used marker pen. Some decks were domestic sales.

Radio ones will have had a hard life but probably a good service history.

I see makes sense now.
Would this effect their market value?

The ex broadcast ones sometimes come with 2 power supply boxes one allowing for pitch adjustment. This kind can be converted to the normal ‘domestic’ arrangement of just the deck with one power supply box although it requires someone familiar with the deck to do it. I think Sound HiFi can but there’ll be others.

You can also now buy replacement thrust pads to go at the end of the bearing shaft and of course a new ball if required.

Same as anything Tim, buy on condition and history if known.
Looking through some of the pictures of the innards and the way prices are rocketing I’d like to hear one against a new 1210 before I invested too much without some reassurance of history or skill to repair.

Garrard’s are a tub of lube and a big hammer in comparison

While this thread is current…
any easy way to fill the holes without a cosmetic eyesore?
Or, it’s rubber bung time!

I suspect you can get aluminium filler of some sort but it may be a bit of a faff and mess. A full platter overhaul is a bit steep if you don’t need one.

I quite liked the picture Mark posted with the little black covers that said 45/33/78 on them.
Unfortunately they don’t seem to survive on most of the examples I’ve seen, I guess they just pop off too easily.
Shame they look pretty cool.

Did you notice this one Tim? Totally shit ad but given it’s been serviced it might be worth an enquiry.

He’s all over it :smirk:
Think it’s about the price

Yep I’ve seen it and he sent me pictures.
it looks pretty neat, but appears to be ex radio, which is a concern.
I’m thinking about it, it seems a little bit pricey compared to what some people have paid for them over last few months so I’m having a good think before committing.

My neighbour just signed for mine :+1:
