Ever heard of the school of hard knocks??
It is amazing what a decent phono stage will do. Even a decent £200 one s/h will be an improvement.

I’m never going to end up with my nice valve amps am I? The money I manage to squirrel away each month towards them just keeps getting diverted: “Oh, Rob, here’s a nice cartridge I’ve got going spare” , or “here’s a lovely phono stage”, " oooh, look at the lovely vinyl…" 
Maybe so, still a very nice cartridge though. Apparently they wear out eventually so seems a shame not to be getting the best of what it has to offer.
