It’s all good advice though Paul, and some pretty pictures too… I like the look of that Lowther that Jon posted, but not sure if it would suit the rockier stuff I like. Need a jack of all trades.

I’m not dismissing the advice, Rob. Just saying that until you are in a position to buy, it’s all a bit moot.
True enough, but I’m treating it as research and it’s interesting for me because the only valve experience I have is a Fatman iTube which is just a bit of fun really.

I suspect that a Nobsound M77 pre (although I’ve never heard one, but people who’s opinions I trust have) and a Sony V-FET power amp (solid state, but don’t let that put you off, they’re lush) might be worth a punt.

I had a couple of el 84 amps when I had triangles as well as an Arion 5881 one same as I’m using now.all worked very well
I know, still £600 short though.
Perhaps he’ll hold on to it for me till September…
