2021 Formula One - The Bollox Continues

I disagree, as did all the racing pundits.

Bollocks.

If it was a racing incident, then he shouldn’t have been penalised at all. I reckon the stewards have tried to steer a middle course here. Certainly Red Bull sounded furious!

He should have been penalised at least two places, on the finish.

Should have been a 10 second stop and go penalty taken within 3 laps of the start. Then Lewis would have had to earn any points he got by driving through the field. Very weak stewardship and any spectacle has been removed. It’s a procession now.

I’d like to see them towing a caravan for the rest of the race as the penalty.

No justice, but he drove a great race.

Great entertainment, great race. 10-sec penalty was about spot on for me, both drivers commited, neither wanting to give in. Great drives from Hamilton, LeClerc, Norris and Ricciardo!

Great driving by Lewis. Don’t agree with the penalty no matter what some of the pundits said, Max left a gap and Lewis got up the inside. F1 want excitement and overtaking, so let them race. Max could’ve done what Charles did and stayed wide, instead he turned in despite knowing Lewis was inside him. If Max had played the percentages he’d have still been in the race.

Great win for Hamilton, chasing down Leclerc over the last 10 laps. I wish more tracks were like Silverstone but with better transport connectivity.

The penalty seemed harsh for what looked like a racing incident but the Stewards fudged a compromise. If situation occurred with the drivers reversed, I think Hamilton would have backed out.

I hope it wasn’t a super spreader event.

Brilliant, loved it.

I know he got slammed into a wall at 51G but it’s a little childish of Verstappen to criticise Hamilton in the way he has. Hamilton was penalised by the Stewards and accepted it, despite probably feeling hard done by. Do as Hamilton has done over the years and make your statements on the track.

He will no doubt grow out of it.
He is a spoilt kid (a very talented spoilt kid) who also called Occon ‘a pussy’ .
It doesn’t help that Horner will reinforce the view that it was all Hamilton’s fault and that is what he will believe.

Just watched this.

Looks to me like Hamilton had the inside line, had pulled almost completely alongside before slowing slightly, and that Verstappen turned into him, hitting Hamilton, and then spinning out.

Hamilton put himself into a position where that could happen, but became a spectator. Had Verstappen backed off, it wouldn’t have happened. Hamilton already appeared to be slowing, although that may have been more to do with making it through the turn (given his position on track) than giving way to Verstappen.

Lap 1: I hate that it happened and deprived us of some great wheel-to-wheel racing, but in my worthless opinion that was some heavy-handed penalising, it was a basic racing incident. Had Hamilton moved further right he would have broken grip, spun and both drivers would have been out of the race. Had he backed-off, his race would have been over. Max had sight of him, and chose not to make more space, relying on Lewis backing-off. Neither driver covered himself in glory, but that was a 50/50 incident.

Scary impact - sobering to think that when I first started attending races in the 1970s with my dad, the charred remains of Max would have been going home in a body-bag…

I found the race itself entertaining - as I did the whole weekend - would love to do 3-days camping there next year if they follow a similar format.

Felt very sorry for Leclerc, he deserved the win, great car and tyre management, but a hell of a drive from Lewis.

Lacklustre effort from Perez - anyone know if he’s got a contract for 2022?

Reading this thread has given I a proper larf !

I love how casuals suddenly become experts when the race is at Silverstone.

Thank you all for the entertainment.

You ARE having a laugh Ian !?!
During the course of his career, nobody has bitched and moaned about being hard done by more than Hamilton. Not since Nigel Mansell at least.

Hamilton was going too fast to make the corner on that line and washed out wide into Verstappen. I think whatever happened he lifted too late and wouldn’t have made the corner.
Whatever, I still thing it was a racing incident and we are only talking about it because of a severe consequence.
I still think the worst travesty ever in F1 took place after Prost turned into Senna at Suzuka (he would have been a meter before the apex if he had turned in where he did on an empty track in my estimation from the overhead). Prost jumped out assuming he had just become WC, Senna continued for a whole lap without a front wing, pitted and then continued only to be disqualified afterwards for the “illegal” manoeuvre he had to take to extricate his car. Nobody in the history of racing had even been penalised for safely doing that sort of thing, or subsequently probably.
The only payback Senna got was taking Prost out 12 months later.
I am still angry about it and have Senna really having one championshio more than the records show and Prost one fewer in my head.
Even though I am a Prost fan, it was tha cnut Ballestre.
