It’s a good point on the mounting. I think it’s strong enough, but the downside of failure is significant.
I’m printing a base to support the 2441; I think I’ll also print something that will support the first part of the horn. This will spread out the force.
I kinda wish I had chosen an infill that would work with filling with epoxy. I think that only the base would need it - elsewhere the increase in weight would be a real pain. But a base made of rock would, err, rock…
I’m not terribly happy about how it’s gone, but it should work - the joins are air tight.
The second top layer (the, er, front bottom, in that photo) went worse than the first. The central pieces did not join at the right angle, and then there was no way either to mount them well on the base or get the ‘corners’ to fit well.
What I need to do is make some kind of former, which will hold them in the right relative position while being glued. So I’ll print that next, and then get started on the next horn.
I’ve 90% decided against epoxy filling, as I don’t think it’s necessary and they’re awkward enough to manoeuvre as it is, without being 20kg heavier.
@Wayward Have you given any thought to what you want?
Here is my draft:
Some comments and questions:
I suggest that we carefully measure your throat adapter to make sure it fits.
Do you want it filled with epoxy? I’ll choose a filler pattern that will work for this either way. I’m not sure that I would recommend me doing it, but I’m willing to try!
What colour do you want? White looks good and any surplus glue won’t show, and fillers are easily available, but your decor is your decor
Maybe get some input from @coco about the expansion rate. What frequency range are you using them over?
Are you happy with the design? I just thickened the horn profile and added an expansion 5cm above the base to the edge as I thought it looked better. I can’t come up with a good way to round off the outside, although maybe anyone else who can do Fusion can help here?
I’m about to start printing my second horn, which will take 2 weeks, but I assume you’re in no rush!
Don’t worry, I have loads of time. I’m currently mulling the low- mid horn. The easiest option of which is very expensive!
This is what I am after though, very cool. Not sure the gluing and stuff should be an issue, I expect I’ll get them painted. I think they should be 600hz sized. I have the azura horns for throat adaptor measuring.
