It’s a rare thing when a slightly more obscure lp actually gets the audiophile all tube treatment. I’ve loved this lp for more than 20 years and I do have an original but I so wanted to hear this I managed to catch a copy. Pressed at qrp, mastered by kevin gray - I’m listening now and it’s just a thing of wonder - and yes it sounds better than the first pressing or the various other re issues I’ve heard.

Tends to be a magic combo.

Tube mastering from original tapes and decent pressing are what’s required. I kind of get other forms of pressing and I like playing records but if I want to really listen to an analogue system I want an analogue recording otherwise I might as well have downloaded etc.

So what’s your view then on the value of most modern/ contemporary vinyl releases which have probably been digitally recorded and mastered?

I tend not to buy much that is new but when I do it is because I want a physical thing. I like playing records - Sonically however I tend not to really go nuts about the sound If the recording has been through a digital process. To me, it rather punctures the purpose of having an all analogue playback system. Of course this is a personal hang up that probably stems from working at a mastering and editing co years ago. For example Abbey Rd do half speed transcription which is a + IMHO but it’s digitally processed and to me this again begs the question why not buy the CD / download? - OK you get a nice cover but Doing an A/B with a first pressing for example Solid Air - the sound is compressed to my ears and pisses on my chips. With new artists this can’t be avoided so I’m stuck with having to accept the process in the same way Jamaican reggae 45’s are always rough…I have to bung in a mental filter!

Agreed, modern releases where there is no option the vinyl release is often a nice thing, and can sometimes sound nicer if the digital release is compressed and clipped.

For older music it’s analogue productions type releases or the best pre 80s release I can find/want to pay for.

Interesting and agree.

Anyway, enough digression, back to the thread task of maxing out the data costs of hosting with lots of photos of LPs and tapes

Jamie Cullums radio show… But louder this time.

Mystery tape #3 - Paul Jones Blues radio show
Mystery tape #4 - radio play of Tom Stoppards Arcadia.
Mystery tape #5 - Paul Jones Blues radio show
Mystery tape #6 - Mark Radcliffe folk show.

Plenty of tape to be recorded over then!

Yep, tape some of your favourite CDs.

First thing to be transferred to physical format will be the master quality d/l of @Nick_Dartmoor s debut album.

Somewhere there is a lurker on here taping the worst R2 possible and dangling it on ebay in front of you lot.

Edit: next up will be Nigel Ogden…

I liked the Paul Jones shows. He frequently picked out some good stuff to play
