Acid Jazz compilation reco's please

Any stone cold classic compilations (on vinyl) out there folks are happy to recommend ? I’m not particularly afraid of ‘out there’ reco’s.

Thanks

Not all Acid Jazz but a decent comp

Have a listen to the two Jazz On The Corner comps by Eddie Piller and Martin Freeman on Qobuz - not bad.

Eddie Piller set up the Acid Jazz label and is a top bloke - spun a few tunes with him a long time ago now.

Some bangers on these, which all had vinyl releases. All long time faves of mine which have had plenty of plays. James Taylor Quartet “Starsky & Hutch theme” just one of many standouts from 100% AJ. Both Totally Wired AJ records comps are well good too.

Can’t help but feel that this would also be complimentary too. >>>

A stone cold classic!

For a bit more out there & veering towards trip hoppy albeit with acid jazz influences the Dope on Plastic series of comps from t’ React label are worth checking out.

This was absolutely the one for us back in the day. Never gets old. Not a filler track on it.
There’s others in the series, but I’ve always thought this was the high point.

I’m not really clear on what acid jazz is, but this classic album from Oz band Skunkhour is branded acid jazz. I suspect it’s not what you are seeking, though.

Damn right

I’m not savvy with vinyl releases but in addition to the previously mentioned disks, iirc the stolen moments: red hot and cool releases were pretty good

The early rebirth of the cool volumes were also good ‘uns IIRC . I think they were on Gilles’ Talkin Loud label

Thanks chaps. Plenty to listen to there !

Bit like working out what is post punk, ask 100 people who will give close to 100 different examples.
It’s a bit of a meaningless pigeon hole

Does it mean music from the late eighties/early nineties inspired by funk/soul/jazz from the seventies?

No idea what the definition is

Heard someone calling Duran Duran and spandau ballet as post punk. Admittedly they were American, but seems they literally think anything post 78 is post punk, which I suppose it is
My definition is a bit different

Ask Giles Peterson.

For a more concise visual feel for the scene imagine a room full of: corduroy

I think the definition is fairly loose. By the current definition, if I understand it properly, Skyhooks, TISM, Men at Work (early period), and many other bands that don’t fit other stereotypes, would be defined as Acid Jazz.

Acid Jizz more like. And Red Symmonds (not sure of spelling there) is still a turd.

Was waiting for your input if only for the comparison between post punk:

and economics, where if you want 5 entirely contradictory opinions you ask 3 economists.
