I found this from NPR
See what you think of their choices.
Also tQ
(disclaimer: I haven’t read it yet, but their selections are usually a little nuts)
I recognise about ten. If that.
If you skip to the top twenty there is a list at the bottom.
Yeah, I only know 6 of them.
Pretty much all of them.
Four of those I’d managed to get a listen-to, none of them I actually purchased.
Three of those / none bought.
I’ve listened to a LOT of new music since getting the system increasingly in-shape over the last couple of years, but clearly I am very much not down with cool kids.
Oh well. I shall take a listen to some of the top-tens
Haha, nothing on those lists have fuck all to do with “the kids” apart from maybe Brat, just included to show they’re not utterly detached from reality.
Nick Cave & The Cure, otherwise I haven’t heard of any of them.
Ok, I maybe a music luddite but there are hundreds of albums that I still need to hear, from eras/genres that I can relate to, that will see me out.
Music critics are the worst. Most of this is pretentious shite.
I own 4 of them and have streamed a couple of the others which gives 6/50
But NPR are Very US centric
I only own 2 of them, but saw both of them live this year
I love the fact that Judas Priest managed to sneak in there at #80
Let us not forget, jazz!
Amazingly I do have one on that list
I’m a jazz bore and I’ve only got two off that list and I’ve not even heard of about 80% of them.
I think someone got it right, earlier.
