Can Slot survive?
Yes: he won the league, and has had rotten luck. We donāt sack managers and he has earned time.
No: He won the league in the first half of the season with the leftovers. As more time has passed, he has drilled the pace out of the team and installed a kind of slow motion frustration that is choking the crowd and support.
I think it would be harsh, and dependent on who is available, but it could go toxic quickly if they donāt fire up in August. I get a horrible feeling the players are doing an āAmorimā and could work better.
Or itās just that the whole squad has gone bad and heās the fall guy. ![]()
I have no idea how we are in 4th place with two games left. Yesterday was a new low. I donāt say this lightly but that was as bad as anything I saw under Hodgson. Just donāt see how signing 3 or 4 in the summer fixes this and Iāve seen enough in the last third of the season that is down to coaching decisions. So I am late to the party but I want him to fuck off now.
I had reservations early on. The safety first became a sideways mantra. I didnāt like the focus on a full back being close to receive the ball and thatās maybe why Kerkez has been a shadow.
Once CL is safe I think it might change. There is a manager sweet shop open for one summer only.
The only way I can make sense of it is to strip it down to: I am looking for reasons to say stay, not for reasons to say go.

Pah! Bloody review, only means one thingā¦
Ha.
Goal alerts are fun. Draw is good! Iāll have to stick it on now!
Edit- Oh! Oh no.
Think rice managed to give 2 penalties there

I will clarify, not everything is on the manager here. Hughes/Edwards should accept their brickbats . Recruitment last summer was exciting, but some lob-sided signings and players who left (Diaz esp.) were not replaced. The summer was shattered of course, it would have had major repercussions on pre-season, and more than likely is still doing so. You could say weāve had a ānormalā amount of injuries, but so many have been season enders that itās been incredibly disruptive. Players themselves donāt get a free pass.
All that said, I put 30-40% identifiably on the manager. Managers are always the lightning rod and the easiest personnel to chop.
The thing for me at times have been players wondering what position and play is when they are brought on. Substitution decisions/nightmares were happening in our world early in the season.and have carried on. I have conceded to my brother that slot is a fraud. He called it when we secured the league last year. Iāve been fighting it but the battle is won.
He hasnāt had any luck either
With regard to corners, I did see the suggestion today that football adopts the rules Hockey has ie all defenders on the goal line, all attackers outside the box, none to move into the area until the ball comes in.
Might be better than the free for all wrestling thatās currently the norm.
Personally I thought the goal should have been disallowed, but West Ham should have been given a penalty as those incidents came before the one on the goalie.

That Russian winger who gave P S G problems would be a good signing for Liverpool but I canāt see him up for sale
Arsenal have scored a good number of goals by those methods throughout this season & if a few more of those had been disallowed they wouldnāt now be contending for the title. I recall back in August (first match of the season) Saliba shunting Utdās then gk Bayindir back over the goal line leaving Calafiori free to score and thereāve been many other such instances. Itās an ugly development and other teams (not just in the PL) have started to copy it.
Yes, its the inconsistency that sucks. Every corner is picked over looking for reasons not to give goals, with Arsenal seemingly immune. Nearly 5 minutes to decide to tell the Ref to have another look when heād already given the goal? Surely they just shat a brick. Canāt tell you how bad I felt after the game.
The box area dark arts where a huge part of Leicestershireās freak title win.
It was the year you could get away with the sorts of carnage you see now. Safety in numbers - if everyone is fouling then it becomes accepted.
